Let’s Get Our Move On!

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Have you ever noticed that when you start to exercise your muscles begin to feel more flexible, which means they work. I like to compare it to the movie “The Wizard of Oz” where the Tin Man had to carry his oil can around, so he wouldn’t rust. We all carry our own “oil can” it’s called moving. I am amazed at how people respond when they start moving. They feel better, both physically and mentally. Our joints and muscles come alive. Things that hurt suddenly stop or hurt less. Now I want you to understand that if you have physical challenges, I would recommend gettting medically cleared. But with that said, anyone can start moving. You could be lying down to do that. What I’m talking about is what I have done with the elderly for 25 years. Our exercise is based around simple movements that anyone can do, regardless of your physical challenges. I know that if you start moving, you will begin to use that “oil can” which means it’s only a matter of time before your feeling better. That’s the key! Getting those muscles and joints “lubed up.” I have seen so many elderly individuals in their 80′s and beyond whose entire outlook on life is elevated become they simply started moving. It works. So why not get your move on today and live the life you deserve!

Easy Exercise Is The Key

A question that comes up quite frequently is that of strength vs. cardio or endurance, when it comes to an exercise program. Over the past 25 years what I have discovered is that if the exercise is not easy, it’s a good bet the person won’t be sticking around long. Sound familiar? So, with the elderly we created such an easy exercise program that we knew they would say, “I can do that!” We also knew that if they participated in our easy exercise program they would improve their strength, and overall health. Back to our original statement concerning building strength and cardio fitness. If you get stronger and you create the habit of exercise, you now can begin to build that cardio fitness. What we discovered with the elderly 25 years ago was that basic strength exercises are cardio. With the person being so un-fit any movement would get them breathing and create muscle soreness. That’s why we created such an easy exercise program like “A Fitness Experience”. We also found that people became excited about exercise and fitness. As they felt better and got stronger, their life became easier. It becomes so important that the elderly and anyone who is challenged physically learn to exercise to live, not live to exercise!

FINISH STRONG

A great topic these days seems to be health and wellness. Everywhere you look people are interested in looking and feeling better. The wellness industry is a 200 billion dollar business and it’s only getting bigger. Most experts believe the wellness industry, will more than double in the next 5 years. As a specialist with anti-aging and wellness I can attest to how important being active is to the whole aging process. When I first address the issue of wellness with someone I help them focus with awareness, then we develop strategies while dealing with any underlying issues. Then we start moving! There is some really awesome information about aging that we all need to be aware of. First many have shown that a year of exercise can give a 70-year-old the brain functionality of a 30-year-old, improving memory, time management skills, planning, dealing with abstracts and of course multi-tasking. Wow! That alone should have all of us running to gym, or just moving! When I developed, “A Fitness Experience” over 20 years ago, we were just learning the awesome benefits of exercise and anti-aging. We can’t deny the obvious any more. Over the years I have seen remarkable progress from those who practice “A Fitness Experience” at least twice per week. As this wave of folks are turning 65 this year, if you want to make a difference with yourself or someone you care about, you need to spread the word about the importance of exercise. This will become more and more important with each passing year. Starting today let’s begin a fitness revolution for everyone!
