If you want to be close to the airport then try no further than Alicante, which is a large city and well known in the region. You can visit historic buildings, check out great exhibits, and lie on beautiful beaches. You will also want to not the great shopping and restaurants located here.
If you want to travel farther south than you can find Torrevieja. This city is known for its major industry of salt production. Torrevieja produces over half a million tons of salt each year. It is also the home of famed salt baths and even a museum dedicated to salt. The harbor still is lively with fishing and you can also go see the fish auction and market.
